Agios Savvas General Cancer Hospital. Its name echoes through the years a testament to faith and medical advancement. It wasn’t always this grand facility. Founded in 1935 by the Christian Social Union. It began as a humble dream of Professor Aristotle Kouzis. A dream of a place where the sick could find solace and healing. He envisioned a space where cutting-edge technology met compassionate care. This vision was slowly built into reality.
The hospital wasn’t initially equipped with the full range of modern diagnostic imaging. Through modernization in the 1980s and beyond that changed. A CT department was added. Then an Ultrasound Unit. Patients had access to all the most up to date technology. This marked a significant step in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
A major leap forward happened in 2011. A merger occurred. Agios Savvas joined forces with the Georgios Gennimatas Oncology Hospital. This created the Department of Advanced Imaging Modalities. This gave patients access to MRI and PET-CT. These powerful tools became invaluable assets in the fight against cancer.
The newest addition to the hospital are impressive. A 3 Tesla MRI machine was installed in May 2020. A new PET-CT machine was also added at the same time. Agios Savvas became a tertiary center. It serves the entire country of Greece. Providing state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment. The hospital continues its fight in the battle against cancer.
