Georg Alexander’s personal life was also notable. He married Natalia Feodorovna Vanliarskya in a morganatic marriage. This meant that his wife did not share his royal status. His uncle, Grand Duke Frederick William, gave his consent for the marriage. Natalia received the title of Countess von Carlow. Their four children also received this title.
The couple initially resided in the Mikhailovski Palace. Later, they moved to their own residence on Fontanka embankment. This home became a hub for musicians and artists.
