“A place for both solemn prayer and vibrant community life” I overhear as we approach Seonghyeon-dong Catholic Education Center. This center stands as a beacon of faith. It is located in Gwanak-gu, Seoul.
Seonghyeon-dong Catholic Church has a rich history. It started as a mission of Jungang-dong Catholic Church in 2001. The church served the residents of Bongcheon 5-dong and 9-dong. This included Gwanak Dream Town and Boksan Blue Mountains.
The need for a new worship space became clear. The number of parishioners grew rapidly. By 2011 the congregation had tripled. It had grown since the initial division.
In 2009 the church began planning a new sanctuary. Land and building contracts followed in 2011. The first Mass was held in the new Seonghyeon-dong Catholic Church in October 2011. Remodeling work was completed in April 2013. The church took its current form.
Seonghyeon-dong Catholic Church has a vibrant community life. Various groups and activities enrich the spiritual experience. These include: A Parish Council, a Youth Association, and the Saint Kyung Bible Study Group. There is also the Seonghyeon-dong Catholic Church Mountain Association.
Seonghyeon-dong Catholic Church offers various Mass times throughout the week. Weekday Masses are at 10:00 AM. Wednesday and Thursday also have evening Masses at 7:00 PM. Saturday Masses are at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Sunday Masses are at 6:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 2:00 PM, and 6:00 PM.
The church supports different districts. These districts cover areas. These areas include Gwanak Dream Town, Boksan Apartments, and Euncheon-dong.
In 2021 Seonghyeon-dong Catholic Church celebrated its 20th anniversary. This milestone marked two decades. It marked two decades of faith, community, and service.
Looking ahead, Seonghyeon-dong Catholic Church continues its mission. It focuses on spreading God’s love. It does this through worship, education, and community outreach. As we stand here, we are reminded of the church’s commitment. The church is committed to serving its parishioners. The church is committed to being a beacon of hope in the community.
