Universidad del Valle de México or UVM started its journey in 1960. It was first known as Institución Harvard. José Ortega Romero led a group of academics and businessmen to found it. The initial class had 212 students. There were only 23 teachers and 14 administrative staff. They offered programs in accounting and business administration.
In 1968, the institution changed its name to Universidad del Valle de México. UVM began expanding in 1976. New campuses opened in Mexico City and surrounding areas. The expansion reached other cities throughout Mexico.
UVM’s connection with Laureate International Universities allowed it to grow. Students gained access to international exchanges. They could earn multiple country titles. This network offered vast opportunities for learning.
Laureate expanded UVM to several cities. Aguascalientes got a campus in 2001. Puebla followed in 2002 and Toluca in 2003. Guadalajara Sur and Saltillo opened in 2004. Hermosillo and Torreón joined in 2005. By 2008, UVM had campuses in Mérida and Zapopan. Monterrey Cumbres and Coyoacán also opened. Chihuahua and Veracruz completed the expansion in 2011.
Today UVM enrolls over 120000 students. It employs about 11900 faculty members. Around 6900 administrative staff support the university. UVM now has 34 campuses in 18 Mexican states. This makes it Mexico’s largest private university.
