Established in 1797, Cheney School has witnessed centuries of history unfold. Cheney School’s journey started far from its current location. It initially operated from New Inn Hall Street before relocating to its present site on Cheney Lane. The school’s early years were marked by a fascinating division. There was Cheney Girls’ School and a separate Cheney School for boys, affiliated with the Oxford Technical College. For a brief period between 1957 and 1961, Cheney became exclusively a boys’ school. However, in 1962, girls were once again welcomed, leading to the moniker “Cheney Mixed”. The two branches finally merged in 1972, forming the unified and coeducational Cheney School. Today, Cheney School caters to over 1700 pupils aged 11 to 18.
