Opened in 1927, College Park High School wasn’t always located on Main Street. Its first home nestled between Hawthorne and Temple Streets later became S.R. Young Elementary School. Now, picture College Park High in its heyday, a bustling hub of teenage life in College Park, Georgia. For over six decades, it served as the educational heart of the community. Imagine the hallways echoing with laughter, lockers slamming, and the hurried footsteps of students rushing to class. College Park High School wasn’t just a building. It was a crucible where young minds were molded, friendships forged, and memories made. This school witnessed generations of students pass through its doors, each leaving their unique mark on its history. College Park High School was more than just bricks and mortar. It was a living, breathing entity woven into the fabric of the community.

Then, in 1988, a chapter closed. College Park High School, along with Woodland High School, Russell High School, and Hapeville High School, merged to form Tri-Cities High School. The familiar halls fell silent. The vibrant energy that once filled the classrooms dissipated. A sense of loss rippled through the community as they bid farewell to their beloved school. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution captured the sentiment, reporting “College Park says farewell to school” on June 23, 1988.

But the story of College Park High School doesn’t end there. The building found new life as Frank McClarin Alternative High School. Later it was transformed again. Today, the structure stands as The Promise Career Institute. This innovative institution offers students an alternative path to careers in high-demand fields. It has been reborn, carrying the torch of education forward in a new and exciting way. Though College Park High School is gone, its legacy lives on in the memories of those who walked its halls and in the continued pursuit of knowledge within its walls.
