Before Pacific Highlands Ranch existed there was Rancho Del Sol. This land was once a vibrant tapestry of tomato and strawberry farms. Plant nurseries dotted the landscape. Imagine the scent of ripe tomatoes and sweet strawberries filling the air.
Pacific Highlands Ranch as we know it today didn’t spring up overnight. It’s a story woven from agriculture and community. Before the houses and planned streets existed there was Rancho de los Diablos. This was a self-governing migrant farmworkers’ camp. It housed up to 2000 people. They lived off the land worked the farms and created a surprisingly self-sufficient community. It included a church a medical clinic even a general store and a bathhouse. It also had sports fields for soccer basketball and volleyball.
Unfortunately the vibrant community was demolished in 1994. The residents were displaced. Many moved to Torrey Highlands.
The development of Pacific Highlands Ranch began in 1998. Pardee Homes played a major role in shaping the community we see today. It involved careful planning. They aimed for a sustainable and walkable community. About half the land approximately 1300 acres was preserved as natural habitat.
Today Pacific Highlands Ranch is a thriving residential community. It boasts a planned Village Center. This area will feature walkable streets neighborhood shopping and restaurants. It includes multi-unit affordable housing and a civic meeting place. Drought-tolerant landscaping enhances its beauty. Many homes feature solar panels.
