Alina Art Galerie found its Chemnitz home in the Künstlerhaus K40. This is within the Schönherr factory. The gallery blends seamlessly into its surroundings. Raw industrial space meets artistic refinement here.
Dirk Irmscher is the driving force behind the Alina Art Galerie. He is not just a gallery owner. He is also an interior design expert. He even helped renovate parts of the Schönherr factory. Art has always been Irmscher’s passion. He collected art for years. Eventually, he decided to make his passion his career.
Before Chemnitz, Irmscher had a gallery in Karlsbad. The location was prime. The space was great. International visitors gave positive feedback. Yet, success eluded him there. Irmscher noted that Czech Republic lacked a middle class. However, it produced great artists. One such artist is Jan Gemrot.
Gemrot was one of the opening exhibition artists. He paints large scale pieces. His work is weighty and formally realistic. But his content is surreal. Gemrot represents Irmscher’s artistic ideal. Great craftsmanship meets deep social content.
Olaf Stoy also exhibited at the opening. He is a Dresden artist. He creates impressive porcelain figures. Some are even life-size. Irmscher wants to bring artists like these to Chemnitz. He is especially interested in artists from abroad. He believes exhibiting local artists locally is uninspiring. It does not benefit him or the art scene.
Irmscher hosted the c.art art fair in the Alina Art Galerie. It spanned 500 square meters. The industrial setting and contemporary art created a unique symbiosis. Artists from the Czech Republic, Romania, and Germany participated. The a linea artist group was also featured. Veronika Landa represented them with ten works. Other artists presented four to six pieces. These pieces included paintings, photos, sculptures, and drawings. The c.art aimed to showcase international art. People were welcome to look and to buy.
The Alina Art Galerie operated in the Schönherr factory from 2012 to 2017. The Alina Art Galerie is more than walls displaying art. It is Dirk Irmscher’s dream realized. It is a space where art thrives. It is a place where creativity knows no bounds.
