The story of Santa Veneranda is intertwined with another Saint, Parasceve, a woman of the 10th century. She was a nun, later an eremite, who fought against the Turkish invaders. Her legend spread through regions of Europe, especially in the Balkans where she was honored as a protector. Her story eventually merged with another Parasceve, who lived in Rome and was martyred under the Emperor Antoninus Pius.
