Did the name Nhà Thờ Nhân Hòa predict its future? Nhà Thờ Nhân Hòa translates to “Harmony Church”. It’s a fitting name for a place built on the principles of community support and togetherness. In 1971, this area was mostly undeveloped land. A priest, along with a small group of parishioners, acquired the land. Their goal was to build a simple house of worship. They also wanted to offer aid to the struggling community around them, many of whom were migrants. Nhà Thờ Nhân Hòa quickly became more than just a church. It transformed into a hub of charitable activities. The priest and parishioners established a dairy farm for children. They offered vocational training, ran literacy classes, and taught sewing skills, free of charge. After 1975, more people migrated to the area seeking new opportunities, further increasing the need for Nhà Thờ Nhân Hòa’s services. The church continued its charitable work, expanding its reach and impact. In 1995, a new church building was constructed. A new parish house was also built. This allowed Nhà Thờ Nhân Hòa to expand its educational and charitable work. They provided catechism classes, skills training, and evening literacy programs. The church also collaborated with Caritas, a Catholic relief organization. Together they established a robust social work program. They provided scholarships to underprivileged students, regardless of their religious background. On December 8, 2002, Bishop Joseph Vũ Duy Thống laid the cornerstone for a new church building. This signified Nhà Thờ Nhân Hòa’s continued growth and dedication to the community. By 2005, Father Joseph Nguyễn Thiên Toàn had become the parish priest. His successor, Father Joseph Phạm Văn Nhân, continued his work. He maintained the church’s commitment to social work. He provided special care for the elderly, the sick, and the vulnerable. Nhà Thờ Nhân Hòa truly embodies its name, fostering harmony and support within its community.
