Sister Marie-Stéphane started a program of musical studies at the Collège Jésus-Marie. In 1932, the École supérieure de musique d’Outremont was established. It was affiliated with the Faculty of Arts at the Université de Montréal.

The school adopted its current name in 1951. This was to honor the centenary of French composer Vincent d’Indy’s birth. The École de Musique Vincent-d’Indy has a rich history of musical education in Quebec.

Until 1978, the Vincent-d’Indy music school offered a university program in music. The school moved to a building specifically for music in 1960. It became co-educational. The location was on Bellingham Avenue. The avenue was renamed Vincent-d’Indy Avenue in 1972. An auditorium named Salle Claude-Champagne was inaugurated in 1964. Claude Champagne was a Quebec composer who taught at the school. In 1980, the Université de Montréal acquired the building. The École Vincent-d’Indy moved to a convent on Chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine in 1981.

Sister Marie-Stéphane directed the school until 1967. The École de Musique Vincent-d’Indy has been a leading institution since its founding in 1932. The school focuses on college-level music programs. It also offers Musique-études programs for elementary and secondary students. Music education is available for everyone. A wide network of affiliated teachers is supported.

The school’s reputation is built on its faculty’s skills. The mission is to offer personalized training. They provide structured and advanced education in a nurturing environment. This supports both beginners and skilled musicians.
