Residents rallied, voicing their concerns and criticizing the board for prioritizing the purchase of the former Northville Regional Psychiatric Hospital property over essential services. The property’s subsequent sale and the proposed Highwood development project sparked controversy and debate. Ultimately, residents voted to purchase most of the property in 2009. They transformed it into Legacy Park, a sprawling natural area with trails.
