Resurrection in the City began as Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. It started on November 17, 1938. The location was on the corner of 36th Avenue and York Street in Denver, CO. Mount Calvary grew into a thriving ministry from its beginning. It reached out into the surrounding community.

Over the years the church faced challenges. A changing community and difficult decisions impacted the congregation. In 2010, the congregation started a period of self-examination. This led to a new vision. It also brought a renewed commitment to their ministry.

In 2013, this faith community experienced rebirth. It became known as Resurrection in the City Lutheran Church. This marked a new chapter in the church’s history. It signified a fresh start with a clear vision for the future.

Resurrection in the City is a joyful community. It welcomes Christian people of all ages and ethnicities. The members are growing in their discipleship. They are empowered to live by the Spirit. They are equipped to be Christ’s people in the city.

SOAR provides tutoring and mentoring activities. These activities help students grow in body, mind, and spirit. They prepare them to become the people they were created to be.

SOAR began in March 2015. It aims to bring hope to students. They grow in body, mind, and spirit. The church building comes alive every Tuesday afternoon during the school year. SOAR is a tutoring program for children. It serves kindergarten through 5th grade. Students come from neighborhood schools.

Adults from Resurrection in the City volunteer. People from the neighborhood also participate. Congregations in the Denver metro area share their time and love. They work with children from 3:15 to 6:00 pm. Students complete homework and enjoy enrichment activities. These include reading, games, and puzzles. They also use Chromebooks with their tutors. Tutors stay with their assigned student the whole time. They enjoy snacks, do homework, play games, and have Jesus Time. They also share a hot family-style meal.

God is doing amazing things at Resurrection in the City. He works through SOAR. The church is grateful for initial funding. They received support from various grants. Generous financial gifts also came from individuals and LCMS congregations. These supporters are along the Front Range.
