Sadly, the parish lost two of its beloved religious members to the virus, while another faced a challenging recovery. Despite these hardships, the spirit of the Parroquia San Francisco de Asís remained unbroken. Father Roberto Guerrero, TOR, the parish priest, continued to serve his community tirelessly. The Parroquia San Francisco de Asís became a lifeline for vulnerable families, many of whom were immigrants struggling with unemployment and lack of access to essential resources. The economic impact of the pandemic hit the community hard. Many found themselves in dire situations. Father Guerrero recalled heartbreaking stories of families crammed into single rooms, struggling to pay rent. He witnessed firsthand the plight of single mothers with children, facing eviction threats despite having nowhere to go. The Parroquia San Francisco de Asís, in collaboration with its Caritas program, provided a critical safety net. They offered food, assistance with rent and utilities, and support for children. Even during lockdown, when in-person services were limited, Father Guerrero made sure that families in need received essential food supplies. He met with families by appointment, offering a lifeline to those who felt they had nowhere else to turn. The Parroquia San Francisco de Asís became a hub for distributing food, much of which came from the Banco de Alimentos, donations from Alcampo supermarket, and contributions from generous individuals. The church’s commitment to serving the community extended beyond material needs. They offered spiritual guidance, a sense of belonging, and a place of solace for those struggling with emotional and spiritual burdens. The Parroquia San Francisco de Asís is more than just a building. It is a testament to the power of community, resilience, and the unwavering commitment to serving those in need.
