The Criminal Court stands in Riyadh as a vital part of Saudi Arabia’s legal system. It is located in the Qasr Al-Hukm District. This court is part of a plan to revive Riyadh’s historical heart. The Royal Commission developed this plan for Riyadh City.
Completed as a functional addition to the urban landscape, the Criminal Court covers 46,330 square meters. Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah Road borders it to the north. Al Frayan Street is to the east. Salam Street is to the west.
Inside the Criminal Court, there are 48 courtrooms. There are also five joint judicial halls. Administrative offices, meeting rooms and a library are included. The building even has a separate entrance for women’s cases.
The Criminal Court is equipped with 24 elevators. Eight are for judges. Eight are for the public. Eight are for defendants. Separate entrances ensure smooth movement for all. The northern entrance is for senior officials. The southern entrance is for the public.
Parking is ample with space for 1130 cars. The basement has parking for 260 cars. A separate multi-story park holds 870 cars.
The ground floor includes the main entrance and the Administrative Communications office. You can also find the Ushers’ Department here. On the first floor, five joint judicial halls stand ready. The second floor houses court administration and two courtrooms. Floors three through seven each have eight courtrooms. The eighth floor hosts the court’s presidency, the library and two more courtrooms.
Even the basements serve important functions. The first basement includes a police station and detention areas. It also houses the maintenance and operation department. The second basement contains electricity and mechanical equipment rooms.
The Criminal Court uses the latest technology to speed up processes. A water-based firefighting system protects important documents. Surveillance cameras and an integrated control system monitor everything. A thermal storage system saves power.
The Criminal Court building is 44 meters high. It stands orthogonal to the Qasr Al-Hukm axis. This design makes it easy to access and consistent with the area’s urban style.
The Criminal Court blends with nearby facilities. These include the High Court, Sheikh Muhammad bin Ibrahim Mosque and Dukhnah Square. Green areas surround the building integrating it with the High Court Building. A blocked section of Al Faryan Street links the two courts. This forms a large arena covering 55,000 square meters.
