Wow. Just look at the Brooklyn Tabernacle. This isn’t just any building. It’s a place with a rich history a story woven into the very bricks.

The Brooklyn Tabernacle started life in 1847. Back then it was known as the Central Presbyterian Church. It wasn’t located here. It first used the First Presbyterian Church building. Years later in 1966 it became the Brooklyn Gospel Tabernacle under Pastor Clair D Hutchins.

Imagine a time when only 40 people gathered in a rundown building on Atlantic Avenue. That was the Brooklyn Tabernacle in 1971. That’s when Pastor Jim and Carol Cymbala arrived. They transformed this struggling congregation. They built it on prayer. That mid-week prayer meeting became central to the church’s life.

The 1980s saw the church move to the Carlton Theatre. This 1383 seat theatre became their new sanctuary. Then in 2002 they moved to their current impressive location. The former Loew’s Metropolitan Theatre. This stunning building seats 3300 people.

The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir is world famous. They’ve won six Grammy Awards. They even sang at President Obama’s second inauguration. The choir is directed by Carol Cymbala. She’s Pastor Jim’s wife. A true power couple.

Today the Brooklyn Tabernacle is a multi-ethnic non-denominational megachurch. It boasts around 10000 members. They hold three two-hour services weekly. This vibrant congregation is a testament to faith and community. It’s a powerful example of how a small struggling church can grow into something truly remarkable. This place is more than just a building. It’s a living breathing testament to faith hope and the power of prayer.
