Founded in 1905 Grace Methodist Church in Houston has a rich history. Several women formed the Home Missionary Society of Houston Heights. This marked the beginning of Grace Methodist’s journey. Reverend Stephen McKinney became the first pastor. Heights Methodist Episcopal Church South was its initial name.

Early services took place in various locations. A permanent sanctuary was built at 13th and Yale in 1906. This wasn’t the church’s final home. A larger building followed in 1911-1912. This served the congregation until 1971.

The name changed to Grace Methodist in 1950. The current sanctuary opened in 1971. The address officially shifted to 1245 Heights Boulevard. This is where Grace Methodist stands today a testament to its enduring presence in the Heights neighborhood.
