The Antico cimitero di Mezzate is a small cemetery located in Mezzate. Mezzate is a subdivision of Peschiera Borromeo. It is not far from the church of Saints Peter and Paul. The lawyer Giovanni Buzzoni bought the land from the Municipality of Peschiera Borromeo. He placed a sign on a pillar at the entrance, declaring it his private property.
His goal was to preserve the tombs of two children who died in the Parish of Mezzate. Their tragic loss deeply affected the family. They wanted to ensure their memory remained alive through the years.
In 2013, Fabrizio Mutti, president of the Buzzoni Foundation, sought to restore order to the small cemetery. The Buzzoni Foundation owns the cemetery and the private kindergarten in the village. Mutti asked for help from volunteers. The parish collaborated in the work and they uncovered historical tombstones during the cleaning. Mutti explained that the cleaning revealed collapses and problems that they would fix. Sadly today almost nothing remains of this small cemetery near agricultural fields. This causes sadness.
