“Connection to nature” is the motto of the JC Building. It stands as a testament to innovative design. This modern house in Bucharest showcases how nature and energy efficiency can blend seamlessly. Let’s explore the unique features of this building.
The JC Building sits on a quiet street. This street is typically residential for a family of four. The house is nestled between two windowless walls. These walls create distinct yards. A small front yard offers street access. It connects to a private backyard. The backyard is beautifully landscaped.
Inside, a third “courtyard” exists beneath the staircase. This open space stretches from wall to wall. An oversized skylight floods the area with natural light. The skylight also enables passive ventilation. An electric window controls this feature.
Energy efficiency is key to the JC Building’s design. It has a 15-centimeter stone wool layer for insulation. The upper terrace even has 20 cm. The west-facing facade is shielded from the sun. A concrete console protects the second floor. A wooden pergola and sunshades cover the first level. Solar panels and radiant floor heating enhance these passive systems. These features significantly reduce energy consumption.
Wood features create a warm atmosphere. The east-facing facade has wood plating. Inside, hardwood flooring rises onto the walls. MDF veneer adds to the natural feel. The yards are full of diverse plants. These plants bloom in different seasons. This provides year-round beauty.
Plus Line Design, led by Eliodor Streza and Monica Streza, completed the JC Building in 2016. The total area is 257.2 square meters. The site covers 313 square meters. Vlad Patru’s photographs capture the essence of the design.
