Built in 1848 by sculptor Wilhelm Koch, these houses, nestled on Jägerallee, hold more than meets the eye. Koch, known for his late-classicist style, imbued these apartments with a unique charm. Look closely. See those original statues, vases, and consoles? They whisper of a time when craftsmanship reigned supreme. The stucco compartments, framed by profiled cornices and leaf staffs, speak to Koch’s meticulous attention to detail. It’s as if he sculpted the very walls themselves. Two distinct facade designs, discovered through careful study, reveal the evolution of Koch’s vision. The second, more flamboyant with its colorfully contrasted decorative elements, differed greatly from the first. This earlier design, monochromatic and terracotta-toned, was painstakingly restored using remaining plaster fragments. Imagine the painstaking work, the dedication to historical accuracy. Missing vases, recreated using surviving models, now stand proudly alongside restored statues.
