In 2000 a young Chris Klaus made a monumental $15 million donation. At the time it was the fifth-largest individual contribution in Georgia Tech’s history. Klaus a successful internet entrepreneur and founder of both Kaneva and Internet Security Systems wanted to give back. He envisioned a space where future generations of tech leaders could thrive. His vision became a reality.

The construction journey was not without its challenges. The chosen site the location of the old Health Center presented unexpected obstacles. Uncertain land ownership delayed the start date. The discovery of subsurface rock further complicated matters requiring the use of explosives to clear the way. Imagine the tremors felt by students in nearby buildings as blasts rocked the campus. But eventually the challenges were overcome.

The Christopher W. Klaus Advanced Computing Building finally opened its doors in October 2006. The building’s design is impressive. It boasts over 70 labs a three-story parking deck and a central pathway that encourages pedestrian flow. Furthermore it’s environmentally friendly earning a LEED Gold Certification.
