A rectangular silhouette against the Ankara sky. That’s Bucuk Camii. Its unassuming exterior belies a rich history. This is Bucuk Camii in Eski Bucuk village.

Built sometime between the 15th and 16th centuries Bucuk Camii stands as a testament to Ottoman craftsmanship. No inscription marks its creation. No founding charter exists. We only know it existed by a 1463 census. The census recorded an imam serving in Bucuk village. This suggests the mosque’s construction predates this date. Comparing its architecture to similar structures helps us date it.

Notice the south facade. The plaster mihrab is original. The Kelime-i Tevhid is repeated on its border. The molding technique is exquisite. It’s a small detail that speaks volumes about the dedication of its creators. This intricate work was meant to be seen. It adds to the spiritual significance of the mosque.

To the north stands the Karveş Dede tomb. This addition postdates the mosque. Four unidentified graves lie within. It’s a quiet space reflecting on the lives touched by this place.

The Bucuk Camii has witnessed centuries of prayer. It has seen villagers gather. It has seen seasons change outside its walls. This unassuming mosque holds quiet stories. The stories are as old as Ankara itself.

In 2006 the General Directorate of Foundations restored Bucuk Camii. The restoration ensured its survival. Its survival guarantees that future generations will also experience its serenity. Its quiet power. Bucuk Camii continues to serve its community. It is a living monument to faith. To history. To the enduring spirit of Ankara. It is a place that you must visit.
