Our Lady of Perpetual Help serves as a vibrant hub for the Vietnamese Catholic community in the Salt Lake City Diocese. The story of this church is intertwined with the larger narrative of Catholicism in Utah. It began in the mid-1800s, under the vast jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Utah officially became its own diocese in 1891, led by the very same Father Scanlan. The Diocese of Salt Lake, later renamed the Diocese of Salt Lake City, encompassed a huge area. It even included parts of Nevada until 1931. Our Lady of Perpetual Help wasn’t established until much later. The church’s official dedication, in its current building at 4360 West 5415 South, took place in November 2003, under Bishop Niederauer. The church offers Mass in Vietnamese, catering to a growing community. Saturday evenings see three Vietnamese Masses. Sunday offers two. Weekday Masses are also available.
