On a spring day, back on May 26, 1997, a small group of believers gathered. They met at the Andrews Funeral Home on Ashby Street, their hearts set on forming a new fellowship. This marked the humble beginning of Victory Baptist Church. The name, proposed by Pastor James A. Wilborn, Jr., reflected their faith and determination. The echoes of their first service, held on the second Sunday of June that year, still resonate in the spirit of the church. Imagine those early days at the funeral home, the small congregation of 27 souls finding their rhythm. First Lady Audrey Lavelle Wilborn, a talented musician, graced the room as both pianist and organist. That space at 116 Ashby Street bore witness to the genesis of their music ministry. Victory Baptist Church thrived, even in those early days. Their numbers grew, their faith deepened. By May of 2000, Victory Baptist Church had found a new home, a testament to their growth. They held their first service at 2736 Dodson Dr. in East Point, previously the site of The First Church of Christ Scientist. This marked a new chapter for the Victory Baptist Church. The church continues to thrive today, under the leadership of their second pastor, Rev. Walter C. Mobley, Jr., elected in 2023. Victory Baptist Church stands as a beacon of faith, a testament to the enduring power of belief and community.
