Did a simple stele ever spark your curiosity? This unassuming stone marker, the 禁裏内道場跡 Stele, has a story to tell. We are standing at the edge of history, right where the bustling heart of the 禁裏内道場, a center of learning and faith, once stood. The year was 1595. Imagine a grand city rising from the ashes of war. Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a powerful figure in Japan’s history, decided to reshape Kyoto. During the construction of his grand vision, the grounds we are on were repurposed. This area became part of the new road system, forever marking the location of the former 禁裏内道場. Today, only this silent stone sentinel, the 禁裏内道場跡 Stele, remains to hint at the vibrant past it witnessed.
