“A passport, a gateway to the world.” Here at the Riyadh passport office, such gateways are granted. The Riyadh passport itself is more than just a travel document for Saudi Arabian citizens. It’s a symbol of national identity and a key to exploring the globe. The current version, introduced on February 10, 2022, sports a dark green cover. This cover proudly displays the Emblem of Saudi Arabia. Beneath, the words “Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” are inscribed. Lower still, you’ll find the word “Passport” and the universally recognized e-passport symbol. Inside, it includes not only vital statistics like name, nationality, and date of birth but also these dates according to the Islamic calendar. A unique feature is the note inside the front cover. It requests all countries to allow the bearer safe passage and necessary assistance. This request is made “In the name of the King, of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.” Interestingly, the application process is entirely online. This process is facilitated through the “Absher” platform. It allows citizens to apply for or renew their Riyadh passports from anywhere. Even passport photos can be submitted digitally. However, the photo must adhere to specific guidelines. Men are typically required to wear traditional Saudi dress. The Riyadh passport’s power is evident in its visa-free access to numerous countries. As of 2024, it allowed access to 88 countries and territories. This places the Riyadh passport 56th globally in terms of travel freedom. It also grants free movement within the Gulf Cooperation Council states. The Riyadh passport isn’t just a booklet. It’s a testament to Saudi Arabia’s connection to the global community.
