Construction began in 1964. The Vi\u1ec7t Nam United Buddhist Sangha initiated it. The government of Vi\u1ec7t Nam C\u1ed9ng H\u00f2a donated over 4 hectares of land. Mr. Nguy\u1ec5n Kh\u00e1nh donated 10 million to the cause. The pagoda symbolized the solidarity of Buddhists nationwide. They were struggling for peace.

After 1975, things changed. The new government repurposed much of Vi\u1ec7t Nam Qu\u1ed1c T\u1ef1’s land. They built the K\u1ef3 H\u00f2a entertainment area. They also erected the H\u00f2a B\u00ecnh Theater.

In 1988, a determined monk sought justice. H\u00f2a th\u01b0\u1ee3ng T\u1eeb Nh\u01a1n, the former abbot, requested the return of the land. It took five years. Finally, in 1993, the government granted his request. However, Vi\u1ec7t Nam Qu\u1ed1c T\u1ef1’s land was reduced to 3,712 m2. The original tower remained unfinished.

Extensive renovations took place in 1993. New features were added. In 2014, the pagoda underwent a complete rebuild. The grand opening occurred in November 2017. It now boasts solid and impressive architecture.

Through years of development Vi\u1ec7t Nam Qu\u1ed1c T\u1ef1 has become a significant cultural site. It hosts major Buddhist events in the South.
