In 1976, a robust bridge of prestressed concrete arose, connecting Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf with Reinickendorf. This is the Hinckeldeybrücke. It replaced an older structure unable to cope with Berlin’s burgeoning traffic. The Hinckeldeybrücke carries the Kurt-Schuhmacher-Damm and the A111 Autobahnzubringer over the Saatwinkler Damm and the Hohenzollernkanal. The Hinckeldeybrücke isn’t just a concrete behemoth, it holds a piece of Berlin’s history. Since 1927, it has honored Carl Ludwig Friedrich von Hinckeldey, Berlin’s General Police Director under King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. The current Hinckeldeybrücke stretches approximately 115 meters long. This modern bridge is more than just a pathway. It stands as a testament to progress, connecting communities and carrying the echoes of history. Imagine the countless vehicles and pedestrians that have crossed this vital artery since its inauguration. The Hinckeldeybrücke silently witnesses the daily rhythm of Berlin, a constant in the ever-changing cityscape.
