Here at the International School of Arts and Sciences (ISAS) in Al Warqaa, Dubai, that “what if” becomes reality. Established in 2007 by Academia Management Solutions International (AMSI), the International School of Arts and Sciences’ mission is to nurture character development, leadership, and global citizenship. ISAS fosters an environment where individuality is celebrated and students are encouraged to innovate. The school closed its doors at the end of the 2020-2021 academic year. Yet, its legacy of innovative education remains. Imagine classrooms buzzing with around 700 students, a diverse mix of nationalities with a significant Emirati and Arab expat presence. The school boasted a low teacher-student ratio of 1:8, facilitated by a team of 85 teachers, primarily Lebanese. The International School of Arts and Sciences offered a unique learning environment. It combined the American curriculum, aligned with California standards, with a focus on arts and sciences. Think state-of-the-art science labs where virtual experiments precede hands-on learning, and a chemistry lab with custom furniture designed for simultaneous computer and equipment use. Beyond science, envision a music room complete with soundproof rehearsal cubicles and a recording studio. Picture an art workshop strategically located near the playgrounds, encouraging creative exploration during free time. The International School of Arts and Sciences also offered extracurricular activities ranging from astronomy to robotics, nurturing diverse interests. The school aimed to bridge the gap between high school and university with pre-college bridging courses in fields like engineering and medical sciences, supplemented by a dedicated University Guidance Counseling Centre. The International School of Arts and Sciences prided itself on being a place where students were supported to reach their full potential. Its good KHDA rating reflected this commitment, with particular strengths in personal and social development, understanding of Islamic values, and awareness of Emirati and world cultures. Even though the school is now closed, standing here, one can almost hear the echoes of learning and laughter, a testament to its dedication to inspiring young minds.
