“Nearly 2,000 years ago” a faith was born. Today we find ourselves before The Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John The Theologian. It stands as a testament to the enduring strength of the Greek Orthodox community. Since 1968 this Cathedral has been a house of worship. It acts as a vibrant hub for faith and fellowship. It is also a center for philanthropy in Northern Bergen County.
The Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John The Theologian isn’t just a building. It’s a spiritual home. It is a place where the Orthodox Christian faith thrives. It is evangelical but not Protestant. It is orthodox but not Jewish. It is catholic but not Roman. This Cathedral is pre-denominational embracing the ancient faith of the Apostles. They have believed, taught, preserved and defended the faith. They have even died for it since the Day of Pentecost.
The Cathedral is part of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey. Metropolitan Apostolos is the Chief Hierarch and Spiritual Father. He oversees 55 parishes in the Mid-Atlantic States. He celebrated his first Hierarchical Divine Liturgy here after his Enthronement as the new Metropolitan of New Jersey.
The life of The Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John The Theologian pulses with regular services. Divine Liturgy is celebrated each Sunday morning at 900 AM. These services are the heart of the community’s spiritual life.
In September 2023 a special honor was bestowed here. Rev Deacon Konstantinos Loukas received the Offikion of Archdeacon. This recognition highlights the dedication and service within the Metropolis.
