Doesn’t the name Zevulun Regional Council conjure images of ancient tribes? This council plays a vital role in the Haifa District of Israel. Founded in 1950, Zevulun Regional Council serves several communities.

The Zevulun Regional Council had a population of 10900 in 2006. By 2014, the population grew to 12900. It oversees an area of 62.82 square kilometers. This translates to about 24.25 square miles.

Amos Netzer leads the Zevulun Regional Council as Head of Municipality. The council’s location is strategically important. It shares borders with several other entities. To the north lies Mateh Asher Regional Council. To the east are Jezreel Valley Regional Council and Shefa-‘Amr. The Carmel Nature Reserve national park and Kiryat Tiv’on sit to the south. HaKerayot is to the west of Zevulun Regional Council.

The name “Zevulun” comes from “Emek Zevulun”. This Hebrew term means “Zebulun Valley”. Zionist pioneers mistakenly applied this name. They thought the tribe of Zebulun lived here. Actually, this coastal area was part of Asher’s land. It’s a coastal plain not a valley.

Zevulun Regional Council includes diverse communities. These include Kibbutzim, Moshavim and Communal settlements. You’ll also find Arab villages and other villages within its boundaries.

Zevulun Regional Council continues to develop. It supports its communities and preserves its unique character. Its history and strategic location make it significant. The Zevulun Regional Council helps to shape the region.
