Pastor Jeremy Shih had just returned to Houston. After retiring from his last call in Seattle, he felt drawn back to the city where he’d spent many years. It was here at the First Taiwanese Lutheran Church he found himself standing once more, a sense of peace washing over him. The First Taiwanese Lutheran Church has seen its share of challenges. In recent years, they faced the retirement of their beloved pastor, Philip Chang, internal conflicts within the council, and significant damage from the 2021 winter freeze. Despite these trials, the spirit of the community remained strong. Pastor Shih was moved by their resilience. He’d witnessed their faith endure through language barriers and the desire to honor their Taiwanese heritage while embracing a new home. It was this spirit that called him back. He was ready to help them discern the path forward, to offer his experience and guidance to this congregation that held a special place in his heart.
