Pragati-I Combined Cycle Gas Power Station is a vital power plant. It is located right here in New Delhi. The plant helps keep our city running.
Commissioned in 2002-2003 Pragati-I has been generating power for over two decades. This power station is owned by Pragati Power Corporation Limited. It is one of the gas-based power plants managed by them. The plant utilizes natural gas as its primary fuel. It can also use Naptha if needed.
The Pragati-I plant has a total installed capacity of 330 MW. It has three power-generating units. Two units produce 104 MW each. One generates 122 MW. All three contribute significantly to Delhi’s power supply.
The plant’s construction began in 2000. Commercial operations started in March 2002. Bharat Heavy Electricals played a crucial role. They provided engineering procurement and construction services. They also supplied the steam boiler. GE Power also contributed to the project.
The gas for Pragati-I is sourced from GAIL’s HBJ Pipeline. Water comes from a sewage treatment plant at Delhi Gate. This shows resourcefulness.
The power generated here is sold to Delhi Transco. This happens under a power purchase agreement. This ensures a steady supply of electricity for the city. In 2002 Pragati I generated 2457200 MWh of electricity.
Pragati-I uses combined cycle gas turbine technology. This technology enhances efficiency. It allows the plant to produce both electricity and thermal energy.
