Despite these hardships, young Collins worked tirelessly, starting with an apprenticeship in upholstery. His ambition led him to study law, earning a degree from Harvard in 1871. Collins’s political career began with representing South Boston in the state legislature. He later served as a US Congressman and even Consul General in London. In 1902, he achieved the pinnacle of his political career, becoming Mayor of Boston. The Patrick Andrew Collins Statue captures his essence, not just as a politician, but as a man.
