Did anyone ever tell you that Kyoto is colder in the outskirts? Standing here before Kyoto Municipal Ooe Junior High School, you might be surprised to learn that this area is about one degree Celsius cooler than central Kyoto, all year round. That’s the effect of being nestled at the foot of Mount Ooe! Kyoto Municipal Ooe Junior High School was established relatively recently, in 1989. The school was created to ease crowding at another school, Kyoto City Tsutsuji gaoka Junior High School. Interestingly, Kyoto Municipal Ooe Junior High School is known to be frequented by wildlife. Because of its location near the mountainous forests, deer have been known to wander onto the school grounds! And sometimes, even wild boars make a surprise appearance. Imagine students and teachers sharing their campus with these unexpected visitors! It speaks to the unique character of Kyoto Municipal Ooe Junior High School, a place where nature and education share a unique bond.
