Beneath the emerald canopy of Vogelsang, a secret world thrives. Established in 1967, the Vogelsang nature reserve near Schallstadt holds a special place in the heart of the Markgräfler Hügelland. Vogelsang isn’t just a name; it’s a symphony of nature. Imagine a dense oak-dry forest, punctuated by the delicate presence of numerous wild service trees. This is Vogelsang. At the foot of the slope, an old abandoned quarry whispers tales of bygone eras. It’s now recognized as a geotope, a geological monument. Vogelsang is a sanctuary for unique flora. Blaugras and lily of the valley carpet the forest floor. At the valley’s edge, dry and lean grasslands unfurl, dotted with the cheerful blooms of the true globeflower. Vogelsang, bordering the Schönberg Landscape Protection Area, also shares its eastern border with the Schönberg FFH area. This protected haven offers refuge to a variety of species. The 2.4 hectares of Vogelsang pulsate with life, protected under regulation number 3.071. This natural jewel is overseen by the Regierungspräsidium Freiburg. A visit to Vogelsang is a journey into the heart of nature, a testament to the beauty and resilience of the natural world. It’s an escape from the ordinary, an invitation to explore and discover.
