They installed new lighting. They also built platforms for passengers to board and alight from the trams. These platforms are essential. Some trams only run on high-platform tracks. Automatic steps don’t always deploy at every stop. The platforms needed grounding for safety. The entire project cost around 210000 euro. Material costs alone were 44000 euro.

He also happens to be the workshop manager at the Betriebshof Döhren. His passion for football is as infectious as his dedication to the trams.
The depot also has a remarkable past. A previous tram depot stood on a different location. This older depot opened in 1927. It was a sprawling fourteen-track facility. But it was bombed during World War II. After the war it was rebuilt. It was eventually deemed unsuitable for the newer trams. The older depot was eventually demolished in 1984. Today a housing complex and parking garage stand on its former site.
