“Lost in the woods?” a voice echoed through the Kappler valley. That voice, of course, wasn’t directed at you, standing here before the Stollenhütte. But it could have been to those who sought this rustic haven decades ago. Today, the Stollenhütte stands renewed, but its charm remains. This isn’t just a cabin; it’s a testament to community spirit. Originally called the Dresselbachhütte, this two-story building, with its single roof level, has witnessed a fascinating evolution. In the 1930s, the Stollenhütte served as a forestry outpost. Towards the end of World War II, a family of six called this place home for ten years. Later, the Badisches Familienwerk took ownership, followed by the Forstamt, who leased it to local clubs. In 2013, the Kappler Vereine, recognizing its potential, purchased the Stollenhütte and established the Stollenhütte-Kappel e.V. to oversee its renovation. The transformation was remarkable. They installed modern plumbing, updated the kitchen and bathrooms, and expanded the ground floor space. Upstairs, they increased the sleeping capacity. The Stollenhütte can be rented, but priority is given to the Kappler Vereine members. You must be a member for at least a year to reserve the space. Otherwise, you can try your luck, but expect a processing fee. And for those special celebrations, remember the Ganter Brauerei is the preferred beer supplier. You can place your order with Getränke Rettich in Kirchzarten. They are open Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to noon and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. Just mention it’s for the Stollenhütte. The Stollenhütte isn’t just a building. It’s a living story, woven from the threads of local history, community effort, and the promise of shared experiences.
