Founded in 2014, Guttenberg Arts provides artists with space and time. Artists develop their work and engage with the public. It expands their community. Dan and Sara Barteluce founded Guttenberg Arts. They are two Hudson County natives. Their son, Matt Barteluce, and his partner, Russ Spitkovsky, cultivated a large community of artists. They did so through their art and literature journal, Carrier Pigeon. Artists often spoke of the difficulty of maintaining a career in the arts. They lacked space and time to develop their work.

In response, Dan and Sara bought an industrial building in Guttenberg in 2013. They established Guttenberg Arts as a foundation. Matt, Russ, and consulting artists Bruce Waldman and Doug Depice joined them. Guttenberg Arts launched the Space + Time Artist Residency in May 2014.

In 2019, Russ and Matt built GuttenGarden. It is a community garden with raised beds. These beds are used for dye plant and vegetable growing. It sits in the yard behind the studio.

Guttenberg Arts has a 4,500 sq ft artist studio. Here you find facilities for printmaking and painting. Sculpture and ceramics also find their place here. The studio also has a dark room. Guttenberg Arts offers artist residencies, exhibitions, and classes. Workshops and the GuttenGarden community garden are also offered.

Guttenberg Arts hosts public programs. These include free community workshops for all ages. Panel talks and artist lectures provide diverse perspectives. They actively engage a range of audiences. They inspire new dialogues.
