Have you ever heard of the Bornholm Defence? This very spot, Almegårds Kaserne, played a significant role in its history. Almegårds Kaserne stands as a silent witness to Bornholm’s military past. Established right after the turmoil of World War II in 1946, it originally housed the brave soldiers of the Bornholm Defence. Imagine the hustle and bustle of those early days, the echoes of boots marching across the parade ground. However, the Bornholm Defence was disbanded in 2000. Today, Almegårds Kaserne hasn’t been forgotten. It found a new purpose, becoming home to the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion (III/GHR) of the Gardehusarregimentet. This shift marked a new chapter in the life of Almegårds Kaserne, ensuring its continued relevance to Denmark’s defence forces.
