Myrendal Kloster is a Catholic monastery and the only one in Denmark that is part of the OCSO order, the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance. It was founded in 1966 by a group of monks seeking a simpler way of life. The monks who founded it were from Achel, a Belgian Trappist monastery. It was raised to the rank of a priory in 2002 and has been a home to a community of monks ever since. These men have lived a life of prayer and contemplation in this peaceful haven, dedicated to a life of simplicity. Each day the monks follow a strict routine, rising early for prayer and working diligently throughout the day. Their work helps support the monastery, and they are well known for their beautiful bookbinding skills. It is a quiet and hidden gem tucked away on an island that has become an inspiration to those who wish to explore a life of solitude and reflection.
