Welcome to 01 Bukit Kiara South. Right here at the heart of Bukit Kiara. A place steeped in history. It’s more than just a geographical location. It’s a testament to a complex past. One of both triumph and disappointment.
Initially a vast rubber estate. Bukit Kiara was acquired by the Federal Government in 1976. The aim was public good. They envisioned a national botanical garden. A grand mausoleum. Even an international golf course. A brilliant plan meticulously crafted by renowned landscape architects. Royston Hanamoto Alley and Abey led the design. They dreamed of a green oasis in the heart of the burgeoning city.
But dreams and reality often clash. The initial master plan. Completed in 1982. It didn’t quite pan out as planned. Significant portions of the land zoned for public use were sold. Or acquired under questionable circumstances. Private clubs and high-end residences sprouted up. The once-unified vision fragmented.
Despite these setbacks Bukit Kiara remains a treasure. The Bukit Kiara Federal Park is a testament to resilience. Managed by the National Landscape Department since 2010. It showcases a beautiful arboretum zone. Also a family recreation zone complete with paved trails playgrounds and fitness stations.
Even the name Kiara is shrouded in mystery. Some believe it’s an anglicized version of Malay words for fig tree. A keystone species in this ecosystem. Others suspect its origin lies far beyond Malaya. It’s found in diverse languages. Each with their own intriguing association with light or darkness.
The Temuan Orang Asli community also have their stories. They called this hill Bukit Pencalak. A name echoing with tales of warring Djinn. Their sparks illuminating the night. A history as rich and layered as the rainforest itself.
