How about a school that’s more than just bricks and mortar? Grundschule Wettbergen is a vibrant hub for learning located on Hanover’s southern edge. It is a place buzzing with activity and a dedicated team of educators.
Grundschule Wettbergen isn’t just any school. It is a large primary school that proudly embraces its role in shaping young minds. For over 14 years, the school has offered an open all-day program. This program attracts 438 students with its diverse activities.
The team at Grundschule Wettbergen consists of nearly 80 people. They all work together, regardless of their specific roles. They strive to create a supportive learning environment.
The school is one of 65 model Zukunftsschulen in Lower Saxony. This recognition brings valuable support for the school’s ongoing development. Everyone at Grundschule Wettbergen shares a common goal. They want to provide a modern school where students feel comfortable. They want students to learn with enthusiasm and receive individual support.
Digitalization is a key focus. It involves technical upgrades and adapting to students’ evolving world. Grundschule Wettbergen collaborated with Landesinitiative n21. Together, they designed and conducted training courses. In January 2020, they hosted a statewide conference on digital learning. Grundschule Wettbergen was the first primary school in Lower Saxony to connect to the Niedersächsische Bildungscloud in 2020.
Intercultural learning is another important aspect. Since 2006, Grundschule Wettbergen has maintained school partnerships abroad. Since 2020, they have a partner school in South Africa. The school is a member of the network Niedersächsische Schulen MIT Afrika. In summer 2022, they welcomed a delegation from their South African partners. A return visit to South Africa took place in August 2023. The presentation of their documentary film FRIENDS ABROAD was a great success in November 2023.
The safety of students is a top priority. The entire team is trained to listen to students’ concerns. Close cooperation with parents is considered essential.
Social learning is actively promoted. Since 2019, a social worker has been at the school. This allowed them to establish a pedagogical support system. This system supports students who feel overwhelmed. It incorporates experiential and musical elements.
Grundschule Wettbergen also fosters international connections. Since 2005, it has partnered with Towcester Church of England Primary School in England. Student exchanges have been happening for 16 years. English students visit Wettbergen during the Advent season. Students from Wettbergen visit Towcester in the spring. During the exchange week, children live with host families. They attend school with their partner child. They experience daily life in another country.
So, Grundschule Wettbergen is more than just a school. It is a place where students learn, grow, and connect with the world. It is a place that embraces innovation, intercultural understanding, and the well-being of its students.
