Originally located on West 43rd Street the church served an important black neighborhood. It later moved to West 29th Street then to West 35th Street. Finally St Paul Baptist Church found its permanent home here in Harlem.

The current building was erected in 1928. Helmle Corbett and Harrison designed it. The architectural style blends Deco and Romanesque elements. Notice the building’s facade. It reflects the spirit of innovation and tradition.

Throughout its history St Paul Baptist Church has been led by dedicated pastors. Rev Dr V Duwayne Battle currently serves as pastor. He brings over 27 years of ministry experience. His focus includes worship service discipleship evangelism and fellowship. Rev Battle’s ministry extends to six continents. He also serves as Director of the BASW program at Rutgers University.

In 1970 the church’s organ received significant upgrades. M.P. M ller Inc rebuilt the existing M ller organ. They provided a new tilting tablet console. The organ boasts two manuals 23 stops and 14 ranks. Music is an integral part of St Paul’s worship experience.

St Paul Baptist Church offers various ministries. These ministries cater to diverse needs within the congregation and community. The Board of Elders supports the pastor. The Daytime Ministry serves seniors retirees and evening workers. The Deaf & Interpreters Ministry bridges communication gaps. The EM3M ministry focuses on healing and transforming Black men. The Jewel Women’s Ministry celebrates the women of St Paul. The New Life Ministry welcomes and guides new members. The Sacred Arts Ministry uses art as a form of worship.
