Finally, in 2009, construction began in earnest. Ahmed Fana Stadium officially opened on October 11 2013. It was a long time coming.
The opening match was a friendly. Hassania Agadir played against JS Kabylie. Hassania’s Saad Lemti scored the first goal at Ahmed Fana Stadium. The final score was 1-0. Ahmed Fana Stadium became Hassania Agadir’s home. The team moved from Stade Al Inbiaâte.
Ahmed Fana Stadium can hold 45480 spectators. Its facade features striking stone steps. They evoke the image of a stepped pyramid. Inside, a football field is surrounded by an athletics track.
The original budget was 860 million Moroccan Dirhams. That is about 103 million US dollars. The final cost increased to 1.008 billion MAD. The architects were Gregotti Associati International and Sâd Benkiran. The site includes a conference center and shops. There are also restaurants.
Ahmed Fana Stadium has hosted major events. It was a venue for the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup.
Expansion plans are now underway at Ahmed Fana Stadium. The first phase will finish for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. It will add 14144 seats. The second phase will begin after the tournament. It should be complete in 2028. The final capacity will reach about 70000. This is in time for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Morocco will co-host that tournament.
Ahmed Fana Stadium is home to Hassania Agadir. The team plays in Morocco’s highest league. This is the Botola Pro. They reached the Moroccan Throne Cup final in 2019. The team has also played in the CAF Confederation Cup.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, matches were held without fans. This included a CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final.
