A century-old legacy. That’s what École Baril represents. Right here on Rue Adam stands a testament to resilience and education.

École Baril originally opened its doors in September 1911. Construction began in 1910 and was completed in two phases by December 1912. The school was named after Dr Georges-Edmond Baril. He was a prominent doctor deeply involved in the community. He served on the Hochelaga School Board for over 29 years including 12 as president.

The original building served students for almost a century. However in June 2011 it closed due to mold issues. This wasn’t the end. Eight years later a new École Baril opened. It was built on the same site. It even won an architectural excellence award in 2019.

The new school is a modern facility. It’s equipped to meet the diverse needs of its students. It boasts a kindergarten section and many primary classrooms. Specialized support services are available too. These include orthopedagogy orthophony and psychoeducation. The school’s educational project remains the same. It aims to foster a love of learning exploration and discovery. Students also gain a strong command of French.

The story of École Baril is one of dedication and renewal. It’s a story of community spirit and unwavering commitment to education. It demonstrates the enduring value of learning and the importance of community engagement. From its humble beginnings to its modern rebirth École Baril continues to serve the children of its neighbourhood. It provides them with a quality education. It’s a building dedicated to shaping futures. It’s a place where generations of students have learned and grown. École Baril stands as a symbol of hope and progress in the heart of Montreal.
