Victory Gospel Chapel’s story begins not in a grand cathedral, but in the humble living room of a house at the corner of Montana and Gevers Street in 1992. Bishop Donny Banks and Prophetess Jackie Banks, driven by their deep love for the Gospel, founded this church. Their evangelistic spirit ignited a flame that quickly outgrew the confines of their home. The congregation expanded, filling the living room to overflowing with worshippers seeking spiritual solace and connection. The church needed more space. Victory Gospel Chapel moved to a big tent. For several years, the tent served as their sanctuary. This period under canvas symbolized their unwavering faith and commitment. They prepared for the next chapter in their journey. Bishop and Prophetess Banks prayed for a permanent sanctuary. One day, a steeple mysteriously appeared on an empty plot of land. Bishop Banks, with unwavering faith, declared that there was a church beneath that steeple. And indeed, a church arose. In 1999, the new sanctuary of Victory Gospel Chapel was completed on that very spot, a testament to their faith and vision. The growth continued. The new sanctuary, once again, filled to capacity with a thriving community of believers. In 2005, the sanctuary underwent another expansion, becoming the Victory Gospel Chapel we see today. Today, Victory Gospel Chapel continues to flourish. They are planning the construction of a new cathedral, a testament to their enduring impact on San Antonio. The original location on Montana Street will continue to host mid-week services. This ensures that the spirit of the original living room church remains at the heart of their community.
