Didn’t it take only seven minutes to walk between Kampung Baru and Jalan Ampang. Now welcome to the Saloma Link, also known as Saranghae Bridge. This bridge is more than just a walkway. It is a symbol of connection and a tribute to a beloved artist.

Saranghae Bridge spans the Klang River. It links Kampung Baru to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre. Before its construction, these two areas were separated by the busy Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway. The old narrow bridge of the 1950s was no longer sufficient.

The Saloma Link opened on February 5, 2020. Since then, it has become a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Its unique design and stunning LED displays at night draw crowds. The bridge is named after Saloma. She was a famous Malaysian-Singaporean singer. Saloma is buried at the nearby Jalan Ampang Muslim Cemetery. The bridge serves as a beautiful memorial to her legacy.

VERITAS Design Group designed the Saranghae Bridge. The project cost 31 million Ringgit Malaysia. The bridge stretches 69 meters long and 3 meters wide. It provides easy access between two important parts of Kuala Lumpur.

The architecture of Saloma Link is inspired by the sireh junjung. This betel nut leaf arrangement is essential at Malay weddings. The design reflects the cultural heritage of Malaysia.

At night, the Saloma Link transforms into a spectacle of light. The LED displays illuminate the bridge with vibrant colors. These colors often reflect special occasions like Deepavali, Hari Raya, and Chinese New Year. This makes the bridge a popular spot for evening strolls and photography.

During the day, the bridge offers a convenient route for commuters and tourists. It connects the Kampung Baru LRT station to the city center. This reduces travel time and makes it easier to explore both areas.

The Saranghae Bridge has also boosted local businesses. More people are visiting Kampung Baru. They come to enjoy the traditional food and culture. This increased foot traffic has led to new opportunities for residents.

However, increased traffic has also caused some challenges. Residents have noted congestion due to visitors parking in the narrow roads of Kampung Baru. Some have suggested better signage and traffic control to manage the situation.

Despite these challenges, the Saranghae Bridge remains a beloved landmark. It symbolizes the connection between old and new Kuala Lumpur. It also honors the memory of the legendary singer Saloma. As you walk across this bridge, remember that you are walking through history and culture. You are experiencing a vital link that brings people together.
