Nestled behind the Yu Eok-Gyeom Memorial Hall at Yonsei University, stands Billingsley Hall. A whisper of history surrounds this unassuming structure. Billingsley Hall began its life in 1968. The American Methodist Woman’s Missionary Union and the University’s Foundation provided the funds for its construction. The building was completed swiftly, opening its doors on October 30th of the same year. Initially, Billingsley Hall served as a home for the College of Human Ecology. This focus on human-centered studies filled the halls with energy and purpose. Later, with the construction of a dedicated Human Ecology Hall, Billingsley Hall transitioned to a new role. It became the home of the Graduate School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The quiet hum of research and writing replaced the earlier bustle of home economics studies. Billingsley Hall now also houses the College of Social Sciences, echoing with discussions of societal structures and human behavior. From home economics to journalism and social sciences, Billingsley Hall has witnessed the evolution of knowledge and understanding within these walls. It stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of learning at Yonsei University.
