That land is now a soccer field.
The mall has seen its share of changes. Borders closed and was replaced by Barnes & Noble. Several national chains like Gap and Banana Republic also shut their doors. But Otay Ranch Town Center adapted. A Chula Vista Library branch opened in 2012. This brought more foot traffic to the center. New restaurants like Panera and Jack in the Box arrived in 2018 and 2019. Planet Fitness replaced REI in 2018. The addition of a Rapid Bus Route 225 stop in 2019 made the mall even more accessible. A new bridge over SR 125 connected the Santa Venetia area directly.

Brookfield Properties announced a significant redevelopment plan in 2021. This will transform the area adding apartment complexes and green spaces. The existing retail space will remain intact. This project aims to boost foot traffic and recapture the energy of the mall’s early days. Sadly Macy’s will be closing in March 2025.
